Back breaking (almost) work

There are still a few things on the landscaping list left to do:
* gravel paths down the north and south sides of the house
* merbau screen for the washing line
* plant out the borders of the backyard (where there is currently green much)

Last weekend we started on the gravel paths. We picked the smaller one to do first on the north side. We chose Nepean River gravel in a variety of sizes (10, 20 and 40mm) - ordering 1 tonne of each.

That meant 3 tonnes of rock to move - that part wasn't so difficult. What was more difficult was that we realised we needed to excavate about half of the area down 5-10cm. In the end we moved about 1 tonne of dirt that will eventually end up in veggie beds.

So here's the partially finished product. Eventually I want to build a full creek bed (maybe in 18 months time) - I'll need some larger rocks and some other bits and pieces but this is the starting point.

This weekend is the south side passage - but less fancy - just recycled aggregate for now (decomposed granite in a couple of months). Luckily there is no excavation required - just moving the aggregate - but we have about 6 tonnes to move - yes that's right - 6 tonnes!

Anyone want to volunteer? BYO shovel and wheelbarrow :)
