A long time ago ...

I thought today I'd post a history about our home project - as it's been dragging on for a while.

Somehow, I heard of a new land estate and golf course going up in north-western Sydney. We registered our interest and in December 05 we received an email about "pre-release sales" of land. At the time, we weren't that interested. A little while later in February 06, we received another email about more blocks being released - specifically, ones facing the golf course.

This piqued our interest and for something to do on the weekend, we made an appointment to see someone.

We went out there - saw the block we were interested in and within a few hours, put down our holding deposit. At that time, they told us that exchange of contracts would be in about 6 weeks. This was February 2006. And no - we still haven't exchanged contracts (though our lawyer tells us the paperwork we completed for the holding deposit secures our land).

As with any property development - it's so far been plagued with delays. We keep getting told dates by Medallist (previously) and Urban Pacific (now) about when the land will be ready - November 2006, March 2007, September 2007! Our most recent information is "early 2008" - whatever the heck that means.

I suppose we have other options - buy somewhere else - but it's difficult to find large blocks (850sqm+) in Sydney's new land estates. And it's even more difficult in the suburbs where most larger blocks are being subdivided and turned into duplexs or villas.

And this is our dream home - living on a golf course! So we will wait - but it's frustrating!
