Front landscaping

As part of our land purchase, we received a $10,000 landscaping voucher to be used with Exterior.



Our landscape design was put together by Mark Ferrington of Australian-Natives.com. Mark used to manage Sydney Wildflower Nursery West at Marsden Park and was invaluable in helping us pick plant species native to this part of Sydney.

The voucher restrictions meant we couldn't use Mark to actually do the work - but Exterior were happy to work off Mark's plans to bring our native no-irrigation garden to life.

Many landscapers suggest irrigating gardens - especially when you're in a recycled water area like Stonecutters Ridge. However, my thoughts are that water is a precious commodity, and if everyone used recycled water willy nilly - then when recycled supplies run out, town/potable water comes out of your recycled water tap.

We had a good chat with the guys at Dural Irrigation and they claim that recycled water areas have very high potable water consumption because they use their recycled water freely without care or thought and frequently end up requiring potable water to be run through the recycled pipes because recycled water supplies have been exhausted.

So, as a result - we have a front garden that will require no water once it's established (every plant species needs water when establishing roots into new soil).
