Lighting & fan choices

With our plans moving ahead at full steam – we spent some time on the weekend looking at lighting. We ventured out to The Hills Centre (Castle Hill) to check out Beacon Lighting.

Many display homes use downlights to light the interior of the home – and while they look fantastic and make the area very bright – they are not very energy efficient. Most take a halogen globe which can send your energy bill sky high. They also get very hot and if not properly installed can damage your ceiling insulation.

We prefer using flush mounted ceiling oysters and then lamps and feature lights to create a mood in a room. This model is our preferred one:





We also plan to have ceiling fans in every bedroom for cooling, rather than using air con at night during summer. It just gets too dry! Not sure whether we want a light and then a fan in each room, or perhaps a fan with a light. One example of a light/fan combo is:
